After decades of worrying about inflation have investors and policymakers finally concluded that it is dead and buried? The concern that they have has prompted Ian Lance of RWC seem to have concluded that it truly Ian Lance of RWC Asset Management to do a bit of extracurricular study into Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) to see what implications it could have for the market he has to invest in. In this podcast Guy Foster, Brewin Dolphin’s Head of Research discusses the idea with Ian and asks why policy might change, why more fiscal policy alone won’t be enough to address economic challenges, and whether MMT is a likely prospect or not. More importantly though we also discuss what the drawbacks might be and the implications they might have for the performance of different equities. Finally we ask Ian how he manages his portfolio today knowing that is a possibility.
