At the end of 2015 our Bournemouth office staff voted to give up Secret Santa in favour of ‘Mission Christmas’. This was the second year they participated in the event which is a seasonal charity appeal run by a local radio station Wave 105. The aim is to provide a Christmas present for every child living in poverty in the southern region covered by the station which includes, roughly, the areas of Bournemouth/Poole, Southampton, Portsmouth, Winchester and the Isle of Wight. Listeners are asked to donate gifts that are new items. The overall appeal target was set at 64,000 presents.
In the run up to Christmas the office collected a large box full of presents, particularly presents for teenage boys which were the focus for this year, and staff went out of their way to choose worthwhile gifts.
By the end of the appeal, an eventual total was reached of 78,382 gifts. The gifts were collected and distributed by the scheme from a central location to underprivileged and disadvantaged under 18s in the region.
