Brewin Dolphin, the wealth manager, has announced the appointment of StJohn Gardner to its ’1762’ team at 8 Waterloo Place in St James’s, London.

StJohn joins Brewin Dolphin as investment director and his responsibility includes oversight of the 1762 investment team who manage client portfolios deploying a broad range of solutions, and supporting 1762’s wealth directors who provide wealth advisory services for its clients who may have more complex financial requirements.
With a career in financial services which spans over 30 years, StJohn joins Brewin Dolphin from Sandaire, where he was chief investment officer with overall responsibility for the investment proposition and risk management. Prior to that he was managing director and head of investment management at Arbuthnot Latham.
Nick Fitzgerald, managing director – advice and innovation at Brewin Dolphin, said: “We are very pleased to welcome StJohn. He brings a broad range of experience to the team at 1762 as it enters the next phase of its impressive growth. We are seeing more and more clients seeking expert financial advice and sophisticated investment solutions. We know that StJohn will be an asset to the team as we continue to develop the range of services we are able to offer 1762’s growing and geographically broad client base.”
Commenting on his appointment, St John said: “Having begun my career as a financial planner I have always been aware of the importance of strong wealth structuring advice at the outset of any client relationship. Therefore I am excited to join 1762, which is a proposition that at the core of everything it does, is as strong on wealth planning, as it is on cost-effective investment solution choice.”
StJohn’s appointment is the fourth addition to the team in the last few months, after a spate of new hires which have seen the new office grow to a total head count of over 50. Simon Blowey, head of 1762, said: “As the 1762 business matures further, plans remain in place to continue to selectively identify new talent, adding to the diverse skills of the 1762 team as we react to increasing demand.”
