Newly appointed Brewin Dolphin Business Development Manager Rob Jones is happy to have come back to his roots. Having started his career in the insurance industry in Devon and Cornwall in 1991, he is now using his experience and expertise in discretionary fund management to help independent financial advisers and other professionals who provide investment advice to clients.

Working out of Brewin Dolphin’s three regional offices in Plymouth, Exeter and Truro, Rob, who will shortly be living in Exeter, says he’s thrilled to be back in an area that he knows and loves well.

“I’ve been part of HSBC’s global asset management team in London for the last ten years so coming back is very special,” he said. “If I could have designed a job especially for me, it would have been this one.”

Rob’s return to the South West has also meant playing five-a-side football again.

“I set up and ran a Sunday league team with friends for a long time but it’s fifteen years since I played properly,” he said. “The offices organise friendly games against other local firms, so I join them whenever I can. It’s good fun. My real sporting passion, though, is tennis which I’ve been playing at club level for most of my life.”

Rob has taken over from Philip Thitchener who has recently retired.

“I’m building on the great work that Philip has done,” said Rob. “There’s a perception that wealth management is all about helping the very well off, but IFAs, for example, have many clients who have received a lump sum for a variety of reasons and want to make the most of it. Brewin Dolphin’s investment managers can help professional advisers with sound market advice and my work is all about developing those relationships.”
