Brewin Dolphin, one of the UK’s leading independent private client investment managers, has announced the appointment of Stephen Martin as head of office in Glasgow.
Stephen, who has been with Brewin Dolphin for over a year as a divisional director, officially takes over from current head of office Alec Lyell, who is retiring after 18 years, on 2 April 2012.
Prior to his time with Brewin Dolphin, Stephen ran the Glasgow Investment office of private banking firm Adam & Co, a position he held for ten years. Whilst there he had a specific responsibility for business development across the Glasgow, Edinburgh Aberdeen, London and Manchester offices, contributing to the growth of funds under management of £1.5billion.
Stephen has also held positions with Clydesdale Bank plc, stockbrokers Greig Middleton and investment management firm Speirs & Jeffrey.
In his new role within Brewin Dolphin, Stephen will be tasked with managing the Glasgow office and taking a wider role in developing the business as a whole.
Commenting on his appointment, Stephen said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as head of Brewin Dolphin’s Glasgow office. Since joining the team here just over a year ago I have worked with some great and really talented people so to have the opportunity to lead the whole team is very exciting.I have worked in the Scottish business community for over 25 years now and feel I have the experience, contacts and vision required to achieve growth in this particularly challenging market. One of my key strengths is working to help the development of others which in turn benefits the whole business.”
Alec Lyell welcomed Stephen to the role: “It is great news that Brewin Dolphin has secured someone of Stephen’s calibre and experience for the head of office role. I have worked with him for over a year and have been impressed with his strong track record in all areas of private banking and investment. I am confident I am leaving the position in highly capable hands.”
