15 June 2007
Brewin Dolphin’s Investment Banking team was voted 2007 Broker of the year at the inaugural Financial Times AIM investment awards held in London on 14 June.
The team was selected by a panel of fund managers including Blackrock, F&C, Jupiter and Unicorn as well as the Financial Times itself.
The judging panel felt Brewin Dolphin deserved the award as, in its view it was the team that had done most for investors in its AIM clients over the last year.
Some of the recent transactions for Brewin Dolphin’s clients on AIM have included an £160m acquisition by Synergy Healthcare which is based in the Midlands; £28m IPO & £25m secondary fund raising by Vertu Motors, £57.5m IPO of Hargreaves Services both from the North East; potential sale of Dobbies which is based in Scotland; £72.6m IPO of Morson Group based in Manchester, £30m IPO of Hexagon and £58m IPO of CareTech Holdings both based in the South.
The shortlist of Brokers included Altium, Arden Partners, Collins Stewart, KBC Peel Hunt and Panmure Gordon.
The evening was also good news for the CEO of one of Brewin Dolphin’s most successful clients on AIM, Synergy Healthcare plc. Synergy’s Dr Richard Steeves won the award for Chief Executive of the Year following an excellent performance, including the successful £160m hostile bid for fully listed Isotron plc which the Brewin Dolphin Healthcare team advised on.
Graeme Summers, Group Head of Brewin Dolphin’s Investment Banking division commented, “We are all naturally delighted to win this award. It is particularly pleasing that the recognition stems from our fund management clients who invest in our floats and follow our recommendations. Being ‘Broker of the year’ is testament to the considerable efforts and skills of all the individuals across all of our Investment Banking disciplines, who should be rightly proud of this achievement.”
