Stewardship

Our commitment to our corporate responsibility shapes the day to day running of our business. We take our responsibility as stewards of our clients’ wealth seriously. We manage our business in a way that is appropriate and reflects our commitment to society.

Stewardship of our client’s assets

Brewin Dolphin has been included in the first list of signatories to the Financial Reporting Council’s (FRC) UK Stewardship Code 2020. The UK Stewardship Code 2020 sets high stewardship standards for those investing money on behalf of UK savers and pensioners.

When clients entrust their assets to us, they expect us to manage them in a way that aligns with their wishes and is in their interests. This is a crucial part of our commitment to them.

Our Stewardship Policy guides our approach, and our Stewardship Committee ensures that we protect the interests of our clients, and, where appropriate, enables proactive shareholder action to be taken. Our commitment to stewardship has been recognised by the Financial Reporting Council with signatory status to the UK Stewardship Code.

Our online facility, Vote Your Shares, enables our clients to vote on companies’ resolutions where they are the underlying beneficiary.

And for clients who choose for their investments to be managed in line with specific criteria, such as ethical issues, we are able to facilitate their requirements using a recognised screening database.

Our business

We set a high bar for ourselves in terms of the way we manage our business overall.

We pay our fair share of tax, as part of our ambition to be a good corporate citizen. We place great value on our reputation and relationships with clients, shareholders and the UK tax authorities, and take steps to ensure we protect them.

For more information and details on how we apply the principles of the UK Corporate Governance Code, please see our Annual Report.
