The Wales office of Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin held a leadership seminar and discussion panel alongside Development Bank of Wales and Capital Law at The Royal Welsh Show on Wednesday, 24th July to showcase two prominent female entrepreneurs who have established and grown thriving local Welsh businesses.
The Leadership Series event featured guest entrepreneurs Hayley Hanson (company: Hayley Hanson) and Jenny Evans (Company: Jenny Kate) who both spoke about their respective entrepreneurial journeys, overcoming adversity, and how to achieve success and financial wellbeing for you and your business. An interactive panel discussion then followed, which included Hayley and Jenny as well as Menna Cule, Brewin Dolphin’s head of office for Oxford and Birmingham, Bethan Cousins from the Development Bank of Wales, and Alys Carlton from Capital Law.
Topics included the importance of connectivity, improving the ecosystem of Wales and how service providers can assist entrepreneurs during their company lifecycle. The importance of being proud of successful companies in Wales was also covered. It also highlighted the need for greater support for entrepreneurs from start-up to exit and that early engagement is vital.
The Leadership Series was devised to highlight successful entrepreneurs in Wales providing a platform for entrepreneurs to learn from each other. This is the second event and the next event is anticipated in Autumn 2019.
Geraint Hampson-Jones, Divisional Director, Brewin Dolphin Wales said: “Brewin Dolphin Wales were thrilled to host this engaging leadership seminar alongside the Development Bank of Wales and Capital Law to highlight the depth of female entrepreneurial talent that exists in Wales. Both Hayley and Jenny have established very successful businesses, germinating from organic ideas to fill a gap in the market using their skills and expertise. It was fantastic to hear their inspirational stories and the sound advice they gave about establishing a business.”
About Hayley Hanson:
Hayley Hanson is the fifth generation to farm the family’s land in Brecon. The business was set up in 2011, after Hayley struggled to find anywhere in the UK that could tan the hide of one of her pedigree cattle. She discovered there was a real gap in the market for a company selling hides from British cattle, and the idea for her business was born. Today the farm supplies luxury leather goods to companies such as Farrow & Ball, Rockett St George and is the only producer of Welsh leather worldwide.
About Jenny Evans:
Jenny Evans is the founder and CEO of Jenny Kate, a luxury British nature-based fashion and homeware brand which is manufactured entirely in the UK. Jenny graduated from Cardiff Met University with a first-class degree in textiles in 2018 and won the Santander Young Entrepreneur first prize of £25,000 for her growing company which employed eight staff in advance of the brand launch in May this year. She is also the UK chair of the Young Entrepreneurs Unit for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
