Wealth manager Brewin Dolphin’s Exeter office is celebrating after winning the ‘Best DFM (Discretionary Fund Manager) in the South West’ title at the prestigious Citywire Wealth Manager Regional Stars Awards 2017 in London on 2 March.
Calculated on the ratings financial planners give to discretionary firms based on the quality of their service and investment proposition, the Citywire awards are highly respected within the industry. Brewin Dolphin’s Exeter office was first established thirteen years ago with just four investment managers and two support staff. Since then, that number has grown to nine investment managers and seventeen support staff.
“We’re thrilled to have won,” said Head of Office Tim Walker, from Topsham. “As a team, we’re very proud of all that we do to help clients protect and grow their wealth by creating investment portfolios that meet their personal and professional ambitions and aspirations. To achieve that, we work very closely with independent financial advisers and I would like to thank them for their support. It is particularly satisfying to receive an award based on the opinions of our fellow financial professionals.
“The award reflects years of hard work from the whole team but I would particularly credit Sean Priestley who leads our team looking after financial planners and Philip Thitchener, the business development manager in the region who has been very successful in building our relationships with financial planners. We were also delighted that our colleagues in Plymouth were shortlisted for the award, showing the strength across the region.”
One of the UK’s leading independently-owned wealth managers, Brewin Dolphin boasted an impressive haul at this year’s Citywire awards – winning four out of the eight regional titles. The other Brewin Dolphin regional winners were Cardiff (Wales), Glasgow (Scotland and Northern Ireland) and Ipswich (East).
In 2016, Brewin Dolphin’s strategy of building a stronger UK intermediary channel resulted in a 15% increase in fund inflows in 2016 and the company being named the most used discretionary manager by IFAs (according to Defaqto’s 2016 survey). Leading the charge on this are 17 regional-based business development managers who specifically serve the IFA market – Exeter’s Philip Thitchener is one of them.
The Citywire Wealth Manager Regional Stars Awards 2017 were held at the Westminster Park Plaza hotel.
