Discretionary management
Discretionary management is our premier service and is suited to investors who want our experts to handle the management and administration of their portfolio. We start by meeting with you to establish your tolerance for risk, expected return, income requirements, tax position and any ethical views you may wish to have taken into account. We will then make all the investment decisions on your behalf. This form of management enables us to act swiftly when markets change and we currently manage £15.6 billion of our clients’ money in this way.
Advisory management
If you prefer to make your own investment decisions and want access to professional advice, you can take advantage of our advisory management service. This allows you to be involved in the day-to-day business of managing your portfolio.
Execution only
If you do not require any investment advice and are happy to make your own investment decisions, you can use the simple execution only service of our Stocktrade division. This facility is available online, on the telephone or by post.
Collective investment management service
Our collective investment management service (CIMS) enables you to invest in a wider spread of investments and may potentially reduce the risk sometimes associated with holding individual stocks and shares. A CIMS portfolio is a practical way to invest across a broad range of shares and assets in the UK and internationally.
This is a discretionary management service, so your investment manager will use their understanding of your financial objectives to select the products that are most suitable for you. A typical portfolio will include a range of investment trusts, unit trusts, Open Ended Investment Companies (OEICs) and fixed interest securities.
The value of investments and any income from them may fall and you may get back less than you invested.
Ethical investment
At Brewin Dolphin, we recognise the growing importance to our clients of ethical and responsible investing. To help you make the best-informed decisions, we have established a programme in conjunction with the ethical investment research service (EIRIS) which can be tailored to your specific investment objectives.

You can check the status of your investments at any time by going online and accessing your account through our secure server. The website is also a link to a wide range of useful investment information and a good way to stay up-to-date with the latest movements in the financial markets.
