History
With the origins of the firm going back two and a half centuries, Brewin Dolphin has a rich heritage. We can trace our beginnings back to the mid 18th Century and one of the founding firms of the London Stock Exchange. And with a history spanning the Napoleonic Wars, two World Wars, the Great Depression and other periods of severe stockmarket turmoil we have a wealth of experience of dealing with the ups and downs in investment markets.
A great many stockbroking firms have come together over the years in the making of Brewin Dolphin. Most recently, we have joined forces with a number of other leading financial names, including our merger in 1993 with Bell Lawrie, an original member of the Scottish Stock Exchange. In 1998, the well-known Northern firm Wise Speke joined the Group, followed by Hill Osborne in 2000 and Popes in 2002. While we’re proud of our diverse heritage, today we are a single firm with consistently high standards of professionalism and integrity across the business.
